Spinal Decompression in Bowling Green

Spinal Decompression in Bowling Green KY

Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression Therapy in Bowling Green can be a great source of relief for those suffering from chronic spine pain. Patients who suffer from pain associated with bulging, degenerative, or herniated discs may benefit from treatment using spinal decompression therapy. Common reasons for spinal decompression are: pain, numbness, tingling, and weakness into the arms, hands, legs, and feet (sciatica); localized low back pain, and degenerative disc disease.

What is Spinal Decompression Therapy?

Spinal Decompression Therapy is a specific therapy using a decompression table to target compressed and injured spinal discs. Our DTS spinal decompression table is designed to be effective for both the neck (cervical spine) and the low back (lumbar spine). Using specifically placed support straps and specific angles of pull we can target specific spinal discs in the spine. To goal is to pull the spine gently apart to create a negative pressure on the spinal disc to allow fluids to move back into the discs. This can help to rejuvenate the spinal disc and alleviate the chronic pain and symptoms.

Is there any Research to Support Spinal Decompression Therapy? Spinal decompression therapy is a widely utilized, safe, effective, non-surgical alternative to spinal surgery.

The Difference
What is the Difference between Spinal decompression therapy and other types of traction like using an Inversion Table? Traction tables strap you in at your ankles and use gravity and your body weight to traction your spine. Although it can be helpful to stretch your low back it does not specifically target your spine or reach a traction level to "decompress" the discs. A spinal decompression table uses computerized technology to reach a negative intradiscl pressure in the spine. Additionally, the spinal decompression's computer has multiple programs that can be selected based on the individual diagnosis and the area of treatment.

We believe in being upfront and honest with care recommendations. During the first visit the doctor will determine if you are a good candidate for decompression therapy. If spinal decompression therapy is recommended, patients can expect to have approximately 20 sessions at a frequency of 2-3 sessions per week. Each session typically lasts 15 to 25 minutes. If recommended the doctor may choose to combine both chiropractic spinal adjustments and spinal decompression therapy.

What conditions are not recommended to have Spinal Decompression?
The following conditions are contraindications for spinal decompression therapy: Pregnancy, Spinal Fractures, Tumors, Previous Spinal Fusion (at the area of complaint), Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm, Osteoporosis, Metastatic Cancer, and Infections.

In our office the chiropractic spinal adjustment is the primary source of care. We are excited to offer Spinal Decompression Therapy and mechanical traction as adjunctive care to those who need it!
